The remix can be compared to their classic work while aiming firmly at a modern dancefloor. Anif Akinola's vocals are layered and cut up around Lawson's tight drum workout while Finlow adds ever-moving synth soundscapes, gritty analogue undercurrents and moments of beauty. We have made 10 test pressings for DJs we love and respect.
You are one of them. The debut Debukas EP firmly planted him as one to watch, with four tracks that explored underground electronics with a pop sensibility and a grounding in classic house and techno.
This new seven track EP continues down this route with his rich analogue sound and soulful vocals again taking centre stage. The originality of his music stands out with the use of his voice combining as riffs, fx and melodies alongside the more traditional lyrics, and from his well stocked studio of vintage synths and drum machines where he has been honing his craft and developing a sound which is as much indebted to Arthur Russell and Gino Soccio as it is Underground Resistance and Model Hits an almost disco feel with 'Golden Mind'.
Drops the tempo for the loose and percussive 'Titanic' and trippy, hypnotic vibes of Send Me Out' and 'Knowledge' showcases some deft drum programming and vocal editing for futuristic disco dancefloors. He spots the disco feel of the original and filters it through some Madrid sunshine into a dreamy house epic. We've been fans of Pional for some time, and he's currently riding high after his two collaborations on the John Talabot album which are arguably the finest tracks on the album.
His live show which features a trimmed down version of his studio and live vocals is now hitting the road including a Crazy P support slot at Koko on Saturday 17th March. Already working hard on his debut album, this EP gives you an indication of what to expect from the all singing, all producing Debukas. Simon Baker's debut album 'Traces' saw the London based producer record a superb, honest reflection of his influences and took his deep house sound into a long playing format that was critically acclaimed across the board.
Let Me In was one of two tracks that featured vocals from Debukas that were highlights of the album, and it returns in original album version and with an excellent remix from Lee Curtiss.
Lee Curtiss is currently riding high after great releases on Spectral Sound and Get Physical, an excellent CD compilation for Watergate and as part of the Visionquest collective. His version is a remix in the truest form, he treats the original with respect, but twists and turns it very much into his own track, perfectly fine tuned for club sets and soundsystems. This combined with the awesome original provides another essential Simon Baker and Vision collaboration.
One of the stand out moments and most in demand club tracks from the Simon Baker 'Traces' album returns in remixed form, alongside the vinyl edit of Simon's original. Debukas might be a new name to enter the music scene, a quick google reveals just a remix of The Wild Beast and guest vocals on Simon Baker's recent album, but he's got a colourful and varied past.
Born and bred in Greece, he received a highly coveted invitation to the Red Bull Music Academy in Cape Town in and has never looked back. As adept playing jazz as making electronic music, he has even combined the two with his B. Collective who recorded a CD of jazz interpretations of Mobilee tracks.
His trumpet has stayed in its case for his debut EP but he's supplied a killer ep of his trademark 'body moving and mind grooving house music. Here We Go Again. It sounds as good as the 6 and has a memory bank like the There are too many records to count that feature the Juno prominently. Thick chords, sparkly arpeggios. A nice couple of analogue monosynths which have been around for years and are always reliable and help you get creative. It does pretty transparent compression, and I use it fairly lightly on full mixes. As a drum bus you can really whack it and get great results. Check my Aaron Carl tribute for an example.
