Playing more music instead of just listening to it. Continued interest in Xiu Xiu. Names meaning more than the music is this every year? Killswitch Engage?! Since when did metal get so weak and lame? Unadulterated love for Brian Wilson and his glorified shiny whites. Websites: DailyKos www. Metropolis Richard H. It's just a straight ahead rocker with no progressive tendancies and has nothing to do with the general flow of the album.
Consider that song the Cat food of King Crimson's 2nd album. Other than that, there's really not much more to say. If you like the King Crimson Epitaph sound with a little bit of the Gabriel delivery, you should not be disappointed. Like most other progressive albums, a few listens to let it grow. Best track is Dragon's Maid but they're all good except for the closer. First was What do we do now. The tunes were very similar to Jane music - a little bit agressive but worth listening! Second was a ballad Dear little friend, very emotional and very similar to Novalis ballads and Jane as well.
I would recommend this album as a compulsory album of kraut-rock for every listener of this kind of music! Copyright Prog Archives, All rights reserved. Their first album "Seasons" is considered to be a little classic in the early days of progressive rock. It features complex epic songs within heavy rock, psych-spaced out proportions.
Without gaining the commercial success, the band split in The drummer Lucky Schmidt will pursue his career with the band Aera.
Sources are Old Testament, Talmud and Kabbalistic writings, showing the survival of the triple goddess in the basic foundations of Judaism. Extensive liner note; a full 79 minutes in length; unique and recommended! Cassette: 9. CD: This CD was dedicated "to the dancers, dreamers and believers who awakened this flute fantasy.
It's also jazzy and lyrical all at the same time. This is the kind of CD you want to put on for a road trip! Andalin's flute work is spectacular as she spontaneously weaves jazz and Middle Eastern scales over funk bass in "Downtown Beladi". That song alone is worth this CD! Then there is the surprising take on Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" where Desert Wind added a flute part, drums and even tablas!
Go figure. But then again, Desert Wind is famous for tribal fusion, world-beat innovations in music. No wonder the dedication also includes a tribute to Miles Davis and Ludwig Van Beethoven in the same breath! Buy this CD! The flute is accompanied by piano, keyboards, tabla, conga, bass, guitar and an impressive array of percussion instruments.
The message is celebration and hope. The genre is a blend of new age and world music. Getting right to the point with a full-bodied, toe-tapping Joy to the World, Desert Wind effectively combines the musical traditions of the Middle East and the Caribbean. Worth a listen. Saturday, May 31, Rapoon - Time Frost.
Time Frost is music based upon this concept and uses tiny fragments of music from an iconic European composition, Johann Strauss's Blue Danube. I imagined that tiny pieces of former cultures survived locked in the ice and waiting for future archaeologists to discover and interpret them.
I used vinyl lock grooves of the Blue Danube from the MGM recording for the film soundtrack These formed the starting points for the five compositions in Time Frost which were then manipulated and added to and re-arranged into new compositions. Time Frost is an imaginary recording of the mutational process of sound locked into ice and transformed over millenia. Like ghosts of music trapped in an evershifting permafrost. Friday, May 30, Rubberoom - Architechnology.
From Aaron Shuman: "If as Ganxsta Ridd once said, the microphone is a gun because you don't pick one up unless you know how to use it -- a dictum critics of hiphop would do well to heed -- then Chicago's Rubberoom has a full arsenal of sound at its disposal.
On Architechnology 's inset, a phoenix-like creature rises from the South Side, mike-guns drawn, spans the city in a back-flip, and lands gracefully on the Gold Coast downtown, all against the most honeyed sunset skies this side of Coltrane's Interstellar Space. The image is not just millenial fancy but an accurate reflection of Rubberoom's role in the scene, since the album boasts 5 MCs with 13 different DJs, drawn from Chicago's various neighborhoods, no easy feat in a city known more for its segregation than its hiphop.
With this many DJs on the record, Architechnology 's songs are often as cinematic as they are rockers. Most cuts begin with subsonic bass and keyboards rising like fogbanks, occasionally followed by Hound of the Baskerville-style baying or other signifiers of a wasteland, before our heroes' voices cut through like searchlights.
The music, in other words, creates an arena of heightened awareness and perception -- much as Raptivism Records employs hiphop as a theater for organizing with its No More Prisons comp, on which Rubberoom also appears -- the beats come kicking once the knowledge starts dropping. Xanopticon - Psicicite. Ok, what do I have to say about Xanopticon, marvelous breakcore, an odd mixture of fast nano-beated ambient and microscopic shared glass of clicks and cuts, waved break beats of an aparent calming ambient music built out of caotic rhytm structures, pretty complex and fast.
A better description from Rhinoplex: "One of the few electronic musicians who truly defy comparison, Pittsburgh's Xanopticon has been steadily and thoroughly annihilating dancefloors since around AD.
This fiendish bastard doesn't hesitate to carve new and horrifying neurological pathways into his victim's brains with razor-thin sonic shards of unknown alien origin. Will you dance? Or will you peel your obsolete flesh from your fragile, useless body? Reactions are as confounding and troubling as the catalyst. Litany derives its text from the 24 prayers of St. Apparently, Part had been familiar with the prayers for over twenty years, always intending to find his own musical resolution to them.
Excellent stuff. In the '60s, Rautavaara began experimenting with tape and electronic sounds, and in he created the remarkable Cantus Arcticus , a concerto where the soloist wasn't human, and wasn't even live.
Using tapes of arctic birds that he recorded in northern Finland, he wrote a three-movement concerto where the orchestral music seems to grow organically out of the birdsongs. Winds are asked to retune a bit to accommodate the birds' tuning; melodies take flight majestically and reappear later in slightly altered form, as if returning from a long journey. Rautavaara, by the way, has gone on to further success with a series of "Angel" pieces, like the monumental Symphony 7, called "Angel of Light," and concertos for more conventional soloists.
Cantus Arcticus, Op. Posted by Mike at PM No comments:. Clouddead has a hard-to-classify sound; if you described it as "lo-fi ambient spoken word meets surreal hip-hop with an indie rock bent," you'd be leaving a lot out.
The MCs rap, recite, and sing words that make Beck's lyrics sound tame and fussy by comparison. Their declamation can be goofy, swaggering, funny, swinging, nasal--you name it. This extremely open-ended and varied use of language recalls the work of the sonically inclined poet Edwin Torres. Sometimes the language on this disc can be almost inaudible; then it's just another element in Nosdam's lovely and murky music. Albums this odd often confuse people.
